Monreale is a city built on the side of the mountain, so be prepared to walk up hills and stairs! The big attraction there is the Duomo in the main square which is just beautiful in the inside as the artwork is done in gold! You will have to pay an entrance fee, but it is worth it. The streets can be a bit of challenge to navigate as there are street vendors, cars, vespas, bicycles and pedestrians all trying maneuver through the narrow streets. Monreale gives you a beautiful view of Palermo and the ocean.

We spent only an afternoon here, but so glad that we included it on our trip. The cathedral was the most beautiful we had seen on our trip to Italy - we also visited ones in Palermo, Cefalu, and Catania. There were several interesting restaurants on side streets near the town center and we found a lovely ceramic/mosaic shop just off the central square. Views were amazing and it was an easy car ride to the airport for our departure the next day.

Although you can get in the cathedral free to see the mosaics, I would suggest you get the inclusive tickets (€12) to see the Cloister, the Cathedral, the Sanctuary and get up to the roof for a fantastic view of the Cloister and the town.

For us the cathedral was the centrepiece, why we were there, and the 12th century mosaics were stunning. We also enjoyed seeing the cathedral packed with young, local families, after hundreds of years still a centre for the local community

The Duomo both inside and outside is spectacular.
The Duomo both inside and outside is spectacular. The small town itself is very picturesque as well, with some great little restaurants (e.g. Pepers and pizzeria Antica de Guillermo opposite the main entrance to the Duomo) and beautiful views of Palermo in the distance. It's a good place to stay as you avoid the pain of driving in the busy centre of Palermo. You can leave the car in Monreale and take a 20-minute bus ride into the centre for €1,40 one way. You get the bus tickets from any tobacconist.

The cathedral is breath-taking and worth a trip unto itself, but Monreale is also an ideal staging point for trips into nearby Palermo. We had great food and sight-seeing within Monreale itself and took advantage of a good bus system to spend a day in Palermo. It was easy to do and we enjoyed everything we did here.
The B&B had secure parking, a real bonus in Monreale. The room was a good size for three people with ample storage. The continental breakfast was good and served (weather permitting) in the garden. The B&B was a ten minute walk up a steep hill and steps to the centre of the town where there were several restaurants, although many were closed on a Monday. Pepers on the way up was a decent choice. The owner was most helpful, taking us to the bust stop to catch the bus to Palermo and recommending places to visit.
Palazzo Cuto is in a perfect position for visiting Monreale as it's only steps away from the Cathedral. The palazzo has the most magnificent views over Palermo from its huge terrace where we had a fabulous breakfast prepared by Paolo who was a very caring host. For various reasons we arrived late and he rang a couple of restaurants to find one open and book us a table and then accompanied us to make sure we got there safely. He was a charming host.
Situated just steps from Monreale Cathedral, very clean and extremely comfortable bed. Paola gave us very clear information how to go to Palermo by bus, ( which we preferred instead of driving in a very busy city). She also gave us very good advice to park our car at Parcheggio Comunale, which is very close to the property. We really enjoyed our stay and if we come back in the future we will not hesitate to stay again here.
Amazing views.
Great breakfast (with local specialities, it included not only sweet but also savoury option).
Lovely and flexible owners (we arrived late and checkout took us a bit more time, none of this was a problem, we got great recommendations for dinner and a bottle of wonderful wine)
It’s located within a 20-25 mins walk from the cathedral in Monreale (or a 5 min car drive).
Exceptionally clean and the room smelled so fresh and sweet! There is attention to detail and no dust or anything found even on shelves. The host was friendly and breakfast DELICIOUS!!! Best cappuccino I have had in awhile. Plus it was a family room so we had enough room for all of us and we were all together. Very close to Monreale Duomo. Very easy to get to with secured parking.
Really great place to stay, it is very near the city centre of Monreale, place is really clean, modern and pretty.
Owners were very friendly, Nice and ready to help and answear your questions.
Breakfast was okay, typical Italian breakfast- a lot of sweet pastries, some bread, butter, yogurt, juice and really good coffee. I definitely would stay again, thank you 🥰
We were a little lost and suddenly I see a man waving at me from the street. That’s how we met Paolo. The room, hospitality, vista was terrific. The location was directly across from the Monreale cathedral. Breakfast!! Imagine being on a terrific terrace overlooking the countryside with delectable treats and fruit. What a gem of a place, with a terrific host.
The property was on the outskirts of Monreale and very quiet. Parking was available on site and the owners were very gracious hosts. Our room was very comfortable with a balcony that looked out across the valley and the ocean with Palermo in the distance.
The staff was excellent and extremely friendly. They took a lot of care to make the details of their hotel catered to the guests. The breakfast was great and excellently prepared with some local foods. We will definitely be back.
Beautiful terrace where we could have breakfast in the morning. Host was very helpful, drove us into Monreale. The rooms were clean, on the utilitarian side, but that was ok, we were just there for one night.
Very friendly host. Amazing location right at the very start of Monreale. Amazing view to Palermo in the velly. Confortable big bed, clean bathroom.. Nice Pizzeria with very delicious pizzas.
The owner was really nice and helpful. We got many tips for great restaurants around the area. The location is fantastic, it takes just few minutes to get to the centrum of Monreale.
This hotel is very well located in the centre of Monreale. We were met by the owner who showed us our room and helped us park the car in the hotel car park which is 5 minutes away.
wonderful place. beautiful view from the window to the old town, fantastic breakfast, quiet and very clean. the best accommodation in Sicily. we will definitely be back.
